Workshops and special services at Naperville churches

Micro-retreat for women Jan. 11 at St. Thomas

Women of all ages are invited to experience “The Wisdom and Spirituality of Native Peoples” from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in the Lighthouse room in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Dr. Jill Bates, a spiritual director and retreat leader on staff at Mayslake Ministries in Lombard, will lead this interactive micro-retreat.

The evening will begin with wine and light refreshments. Reservations, at $10 each payable at the door, are encouraged as soon as possible because space is limited to 75 participants.

German service at St. John UCC on Sunday

St. John United Church of Christ, 1190 Olesen Drive, Naperville, will present its monthly German service at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.

Pastor Prof. Wilhelm Linss will lead this service. Call 630-355-5208.

Jan. 13 workshop focuses on stress in relationships

“Word of Love: What Are You Listening to? What Do You Long to Hear?” the second in a three-part series of workshops dealing with the stresses of modern life, will be from 4:15 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, in the Lighthouse Room in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

The interactive discussion about stresses in relationships and strategies for coping will be presented by three staff members from Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center in Naperville.

ALPHA, adult faith development series, begins Jan. 9

ALPHA, an opportunity to explore the foundations of Christianity that will be for 12 weeks from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 9, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. No sessions will be held Feb. 6 or March 27.

The program, concluding April 10, is free and includes a retreat opportunity. Child care also will be available upon request during all sessions. Registrations will be accepted through Jan. 9, the date of the first session.

Intended for anyone interested in exploring the Christian faith in a relaxed setting, ALPHA promises to stretch the mind, stir the conscience, touch the heart and engage the will.

The evening will begin with a meal followed by a movie and small group discussions.
