OK, it’s almost the end of January. Are you still keeping your new year’s resolutions? Are you still working on losing weight, exercising more, organizing your finances? The Naperville Public Library’s Healthy, Wealthy & Wise kickoff can give you the boost you need.
Healthy, Wealthy & Wise is a yearlong initiative to encourage everyone to develop and sustain a healthier physical and financial lifestyle. Why you ask? Easy! Recent research shows that obesity has become a national epidemic and personal debt has skyrocketed. The library knows a healthy physical and financial lifestyle is important to Naperville residents. We see books and DVDs dealing with personal health and finance fly off the shelves. We know our online medical and financial databases are “well-used.”
So how can the library offer real help in helping you keep your new year’s resolutions?
For a start attend the Thursday, Jan. 31, kickoff. It’s one-stop shopping for getting back (or continuing) on track with your resolutions. The event takes place at our 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive. Starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be a health and financial information fair. About a dozen local health and financial organizations will host tables and pass out information assisting you in becoming healthy, wealthy and wise. Drop in at the fair anytime between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Everyone will receive a free tracking journal and the first 25 people who visit the library’s HWW information table will receive a free pedometer.
At 7 p.m., well-known Naperville financial adviser Alice Wood will speak about “The Power of a Day — The Power of a Choice.” During her talk, she’ll explain how “We make so many seemingly mindless decisions every day that impact our lives more than we begin to know. This presentation can help anyone take on every day and every choice as though it makes a difference ... because it does.”
The Jan. 31 kickoff event is just the start! Every month this year, the library will offer programs to help you keep on track. In February alone, there are 10 programs covering everything from financial assistance in paying for college to “Coupons 101” with Rachel Singer Gordon, the Mashup Mom.
Partnering with the library is a diverse group of businesses and community organizations. Partners include: the American Library Association, Live Smart International/Alice Wood, Consumer Federation of America, Edward Hospital, Anderson’s Bookshop, YMCA, Naper Settlement, Naperville Bank and Trust, Loaves & Fishes, Lifetime Health & Wellness, Massage Envy — Naperville south and east locations, Eco Gym, Law Office of David J. Boone, Fox Valley Institute, Naperville CARES, Literacy DuPage and DuPage Children’s Museum.
