Editor’s note: The Sun, with the help of the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club, is featuring each month a recent Naperville transplant or a resident who has had a significant life change. Let’s get to know our neighbors!

Amanda Parsons, 47, and her husband are originally from England, but they also have lived in Nigeria and Ireland. They moved to the states five years ago.

What brought you to Naperville?

“My husband’s job at Diageo in Plainfield (Smirnoff distillery), brought us over here. That and the fact that we were sick of the rain and gray skies back at home!”

How did you hear about the club?

“My friend Joanne Brown and a few other friends have been members of NNNC for a while. I thought it would be a great idea to join them along with my business partner Vicky Jatnieks, who also recently joined the ... group.”

What club activities do you participate in?

“I’ve only attended the monthly luncheons so far, but plan on trying a few other activities in the future.”

Where do you live in Naperville?

“We live in River Run in south Naperville. We love the area, and my daughter has some great friends and enjoys school here. We chose Naperville to live as we had heard great things about it and the great schools. I have two daughters, one who has recently graduated from Neuqua Valley High School, and the other daughter is in sixth grade at Crone Middle School.”

What are your favorite things to do in Naperville?

“I keep myself busy with running, gym classes and trying to fit in yoga, too! My friend Vicky and I have recently started an image consulting business in Naperville called VA Glamour and Style, focusing on makeovers, wedding makeup, closet organization and personal shopping. We are looking forward to developing this business in the new year. I also love socializing and shopping with friends.”

The Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club holds a welcome coffee once a month from September through June at the Municipal Center. Contact Sue at 630-904-5629 to learn more.
