For weeks, both new and seasoned table tennis players in the Naperville Table Tennis Club have been perfecting their serves, picking up tips from their coaches, and challenging themselves against tougher players for this Saturday’s annual Naperville City Table Tennis Championships.
The Naperville tournament, co-sponsored by the Naperville Park District and the Naperville Table Tennis Club, will take place at River Woods School, 2607 River Woods Drive, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“This tournament has something for everyone,” said Jeanne Maher, program manager. “Players of all ages can find spirited competition, with awards given in each age division; friends and family members can enjoy watching the matches; and players who want to play just for fun can participate as well.”
Last year, more than 100 players from the Chicago area entered the tournament.
There is still time to register for the 2011 event. Players can pre-register for $8 through the Naperville Park District at www.napervilleparks.org or call 630-848-5000. Onsite registration is $10 and begins at 9:30 a.m. for the adult divisions and at 11:30 a.m. for the youth divisions. Space is limited; registrations after check-in time will be space-available only.
The Naperville Table Tennis Club provides a weekly practice and game session. The club begins its season each year in October and runs through March, offering low-cost memberships or drop-in fees. Contact the club at www.napervilletabletennisclub.com.
