Ray Hanania to talk at Naperville library

Updated: August 4, 2011 4:20PM

We’re in the middle of Chicago’s mayoral race and the presentation of the budget to Congress. What better time to listen to humorist and journalist Ray Hanania.

Hanania, an award-winning Chicago journalist and Palestinian-American peace activist, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday in the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.

He is also a comedian and co-founder of the Israeli-Palestinian Comedy Tour. A weekly columnist with the Jerusalem Post, he hosts a morning talk show, Radio Chicagoland, from Monday through Friday mornings on 1530 AM WJJG. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Hanania uses humor to combat misunderstanding and hatred.

“Arabs have been a part of Chicagoland since the middle of the 19th century. But the Middle East conflict and the events of Sept. 11 have kept them in the outer circle of the mainstream community,” Hanania says. “I’m going to speak about who American Arabs are, where they came from and how they live in the Chicagoland region. I’ll also inject some American Arab comedy and humor in to the discussion.”

No registration is required for this free program. Visit www.naperville-lib.info or call Lisa West, 630-961-4100, ext. 2231.
