The DuPage Senior Citizens Council raised more than $40,000 during its second annual “Aging Gracefully” Wine Tasting & Benefit Auction on Nov. 18 at Northern Illinois University’s Naperville campus.
Almost 300 people attended the event, which offered a selection of almost 50 wines to sip and get tips on food pairings for the holiday season.
Event co-chairs William B. Peterson and Barry Bourdage and Executive Director Marylin Krolak highlighted the programs and services of the council, which serves almost 4,000 DuPage County seniors. Programs include: Meals on Wheels and community dining, home maintenance and chore days, and well-being checks.
Attendees also bid in a live auction for items such as rounds of golf at the Glen Oaks Country Club and Olympia Fields Country Club, as well as silent auction items that included breakfast for four with Naperville Mayor A. George Pradel. Winners also were drawn for multiple raffle packages, including weekend stays at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers and the White Pines Inn.
The DuPage Senior Citizens Council, which has a network of almost 1,750 volunteers, has provided a variety of programs and services since 1975 to help elderly persons remain in their homes.
