Before winter sets in, pedestrians will see improvement to the sidewalks around Washington Street and Chicago Avenue, but drivers and walkers alike might want to consider alternate routes while the upgrades are under way.
The sidewalks will be rerouted periodically during the work, and intermittent lane closures on Washington are a possibility as well. The city encourages drivers to allow extra time if their travels will take them through downtown Naperville.
The project is being done, along with a similar one at Benton Avenue and Washington, to improve conditions around the intersections for people with disabilities.
No impact is expected for businesses around the pair of projects, and they will remain open during the reconstruction.
The work is expected to take a few weeks to complete, barring inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
