Park Board preparing budget

Updated: December 15, 2012 6:12AM

Naperville Park District officials are preparing for their annual budget, which will be presented in its final form Thursday during a special workshop.

Last week, during a regular meeting of the Park Board Commissioners, a resolution establishing an estimate of $18,321,070 for the 2012 year was approved — a 4.8 percent increase over the final budget from 2011, which totaled $17,489,113. Director of Finance Sue Stanish cautioned that the actual amount of the 2012 budget would be less.

“Like a lot of governmental groups, we’re looking to hold the line on tax increases, and our 2012 tax levy is actually less than the 105 percent of the 2011 amount, so a ‘Truth in Taxation’ hearing is not required,” Stanish said. “We always overestimate our levy request in order to make sure we capture all of the new growth in the area since last year. The final amount will actually be less once our EAV figures are included.”

Stanish said the board is scheduled to approve the final budget at the workshop meeting planned for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Park District’s south maintenance facility, 3415 Book Road. The budget will then be put on public display for 30 days, beginning Friday before final approval Dec. 17.

Officials also approved an amendment to an agreement regarding Ribfest 2013. It involves expanding use of the southeast field in the south portion of Knoch Park. According to Katie Sepe, director of human resources, the Naperville Exchange Club wants to expand use of the area from a small portion to the entire field.
