Naperville residents react to mail delivery changes

Local reaction to the announcement regarding changes in the U.S. Postal Service’s delivery schedule varied from those who said cuts were predictable to others who felt it would have no discernible impact on their lives.
“I don’t seem to get that much important mail anymore, so one less day won’t make a difference,” said Kelly Bassett of Naperville. “If the package delivery stays the same, then it’s fine.
A lot of things are done by email now anyway.”
Marcedis Jogun of Romeoville visited the Naperville Post Office at 1750 W. Ogden Ave. Wednesday afternoon and said that “as long as lobby service was available on Saturdays” she doesn’t care about the changes.
“A lot of people work during the week and Saturday could be the only day they can drop off mail, buy stamps, or mail packages,” she said. “That’s really all I care about.”
Naperville resident Travis Meils said he was surprised regarding the announcement and that he’ll miss the Saturday mail delivery.
“I work six days a week, and I’m used to getting my mail every day except Sunday,” he said. “With no delivery until Monday, things are going to pile up.”
Naperville Township resident Harlan Dahlstrom believes the efficiency and timeliness of the mail system has slipped considerably over the years but said dropping a day of service “was better than raising the rates.”
“About 40 years ago, I could set my watch based on the mail delivery, but today they move like snails,” he said. “At least this is better than raising the rates.”
