Man sentenced for fondling himself in downtown Naperville

A 41-year-old man will undergo counseling and serve time in a DuPage County work program for fondling himself last summer in downtown Naperville within the view of three teenage girls.
Manuel Gonzalez last lived on the 1700 block of Melbourne Lane in Aurora. He was originally charged with two misdemeanor counts of the sexual exploitation of a child, but pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct/breach of peace
DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Brian J. Diamond accepted Gonzalez’s plea, said Paul Darrah, spokesman for State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin.
Diamond on Wednesday placed Gonzalez on two years of sex offender probation and ordered him to undergo counseling, Darrah said. Diamond also ordered Gonzalez to serve 10 days in the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program, have no further contact with his victims and not return to the area where the incident occurred, Darrah said. The judge also assessed fines and court costs totaling $577.
Gonzalez was arrested about 4:49 p.m. July 24 as he sat inside his white, 2001 Toyota sport utility vehicle, which he had parked on the 100 block of Jackson Avenue in downtown Naperville, a police spokesman said last year.
Police the day before had taken a report from three teenage girls who encountered Gonzalez in the same area, the spokesman said. The teens complained Gonzalez was fondling himself as he reclined in the front seat, the spokesman said.
The SUV was gone by the time police arrived, but officers on July 24 took a second complaint from the girls as they were again walking on Jackson Avenue. The spokesman said Gonzalez was found there, and that he had paper towels, lotion and other household items with him.
