2 hurt after bus strikes Naperville church office

Two women who live in a senior citizen independent living facility near downtown Naperville were injured Tuesday afternoon, after a bus struck an exterior office wall at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
The two residents of the Martin Avenue Apartments were taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville for treatment, said Louise Jacobs, who manages the apartment complex at 310 W. Martin Ave. One woman required stitches to her mouth, while the other needed to have an X-ray taken of one of her legs, Jacobs said.
Spokesmen for the Naperville police and fire departments did not immediately respond to telephone requests for information about the incident. Jacobs said she was notified of the crash about 1:23 p.m. Tuesday.
Residents of the apartment complex were leaving a pre-Valentine’s Day party at the church when the driver of the facility’s bus apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a wall of the church office at 36 N. Ellsworth St.
“They were leaving the place and the bus driver was warming it up” when she apparently “stepped on the gas instead of the brake,” Jacobs said. The driver and the woman who suffered the mouth injury were the only ones on board at the time, she said.
Jacobs said the second resident was “on the sidewalk and maybe walking to the bus” when she apparently slipped and fell.
The driver was not hurt in the crash, although Jacobs said the bus sustained significant damage.
