Some local commuters had an unlikely, but valid, excuse for arriving late to work Friday morning.
The Metra commuter train scheduled to roll into Chicago’s Union Station at 8:34 a.m. didn’t come in until nearly 10 a.m., after train 1252 stood still for 75 minutes at the Fifth Avenue station in Naperville with doors that wouldn’t slide shut.
“There was a mechanical issue,” Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. “The crew wasn’t able to get all the doors closed on the north side of the train.”
Once a replacement train was sent out from Chicago and the passengers transferred to it, they continued on their way. No other delays were reported from the holdup, Miller said.
