Ex-convict from Naperville goes back to prison

A man from far west-central Naperville who first entered prison at the age of 17 returned there Friday to begin serving a 15-year sentence for shooting a man in Addison.
Dale L. Flagg, 23, last lived on the 1100 block of South Whispering Hills Drive in Naperville’s Estes Park neighborhood. He was transferred Friday from DuPage County Jail to the Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.
Flagg was convicted of a Feb. 4, 2012 shooting at an apartment complex in Addison during a scam that involved tattoos.
DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Kathryn E. Creswell on Jan. 31 sentenced him on charges of aggravated battery involving discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a valid firearms owner’s identification card. Court records showed Creswell gave Flagg 360 days of credit toward his sentence for time he spent in jail following his arrest.
Addison police last year investigated a report of an armed robbery on the 600 block of Meadows Boulevard in that village.
A 19-year-old man from Villa Park told police he was looking that evening to get a tattoo, a police spokesman said last year. A third party made arrangements for the man to get the tattoo from Flagg at the apartment complex, the spokesman said.
Flagg pointed a handgun at the man when he arrived for the appointment, the spokesman said. He demanded the man’s cellular telephone, jacket and other articles of clothing.
The spokesman said a struggle ensued, with Flagg shooting the man in the leg as he tried to flee. Paramedics took him to an area hospital, where he underwent treatment for what the spokesman said was a non-life-threatening injury. Flagg was arrested later at his home.
Prison records indicated Flagg in May 2006 began serving a three-year sentence, after being found guilty of narcotics and weapons charges filed earlier that year by Addison police. He was 17 at the time.
Following an early release, Flagg in November 2007 was sent back to prison to serve a five-year term. That followed his arrest by Villa Park police on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to records.
