One person was killed early Wednesday in a crash on southbound Interstate 55 near Route 126, state police said.
The crash occurred at 1:32 a.m. when a 2006 Mazda went out of control and struck the center median wall. The car then became disabled in the left lane with no lights activated.
Police said a good Samaritan driving a 2002 Pontiac pulled over in front of the Mazda to check on the crash victim.
A truck tractor semi trailer also traveling in the left lane struck the Mazda and subsequently struck the Pontiac.
The driver of the Mazda, police said, sustained injuries requiring him to be airlifted to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
