Donation helps feed kids

Recently, the Exchange Club of Naperville presented a check in the amount of $4,300 to the Humanitarian Service Project for its summer Feed the Kids Project. This is the seventh year the Exchange Club has sponsored HSP through Feed the Kids.

The Feed the Kids Project started in the summer of 2004, after HSP became aware that there was a huge need to feed children who, when out of school, weren’t getting the nutritious food they needed to grow. During the school year these children receive free lunches, but there is a lapse in that nutritious food during the summer. HSP provides food for 100 families during June, July and August. Each family receives 750 pounds of food throughout the summer, to include nonperishable items, fresh produce, frozen meats, and a variety of breads.

Contact HSP by calling 630-221-8340, e-mail hsp@humanitarianservice.org, or visit www.humanitarianservice.org. You can also visit keyword Humanitarian Service Project on Facebook or visit http://humanitarianserviceproject.blogspot.com.

Navistar donates to Children’s Garden

The Morton Arboretum Children’s Garden has received a $75,000 donation from Navistar to help children develop a lifelong love of nature through early experiences.

Nationally, the Children’s Garden is one of the largest gardens of its kind with four acres of trees, shrubs, aquatic plants and play spaces.

The donation helps support a variety of innovative programming for children and families including the Morton Arboretum Children’s Garden Youth Volunteers, teens trained to lead younger children in seasonal activities such as planting, harvesting, and maintaining gardens in the Children’s Garden.

Families can borrow a backpack filled with nature guides, binoculars, and other tools for scientific exploration. Hands-on activities are offered in the garden to encourage children to use their creativity and imagination to discover nature’s secrets.
