5K run: The Run for Reading 5K run and walk will be held at 7:30 a.m. at River Woods Elementary School, 2607 River Woods Drive, Naperville. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Visit www.nicaricoliteracyfund.org.
Family Fun Walk: A fundraiser for the all-volunteer Naperville relief agency Families Helping Families will begin at 1 p.m. Registration is at noon. Raffles, activities and lunch are also in the plans. Walking tour: Take a walking tour of the campus and neighborhood surrounding North Central College from 2 to 3:30 p.m. starting at the west side of North Central College’s Old Main building, 30 N. Brainard St. Attendees can learn about the college’s history and architecture. Tickets are $12, $10 for Naperville Heritage Society Sustaining members. Candlelight vigil: Linden Oaks at Edward and the National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Eating Disorders will host its eighth annual candlelight vigil for eating disorders at 6 p.m. in the Healing Garden of Linden Oaks at Edward, 801 S. Washington St. in Naperville. The event is open to the public. Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan will deliver the keynote address: “Eating Disorders: A Generation at Risk.” Other speakers at the event will include current and former patients of Linden Oaks’ eating disorders program; a former resident of Arabella House, Linden Oaks’ residential care home for women with eating disorders; and Dr. Maria Rago, clinical director of the Linden Oaks eating disorders program. Public hearing: A public hearing will be held regarding the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant program in the city. The hearing will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Peace Officer Memorial: The Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Police Association of Chaplains invite the public to join them at the annual Peace Officer Memorial Observance at 9 a.m. at the Naperville Public Safety Plaza, 1350 Aurora Ave. The Peace Officer Memorial Observance is an annual service. to recognize and memorialize peace officers across the nation who have died in the line of duty. Gateway to the Future: At 7:30 a.m., the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation and North Central College will host “Gateway to the Future . . . Connecting North Central College and the Riverwalk” in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. During the event, the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation and North Central College will announce a fundraising campaign to beautify the college’s southwest gateway that adjoins the Riverwalk and the pedestrian area that runs through campus.
