The College of DuPage Small Business Development Center and International Trade Center recently received $100,000 in U.S. Small Business Administration funding through a competitive grant program administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Funding derives from the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, which the SBA describes as “the most significant pieces of small business legislation in over a decade.”
COD will implement three initiatives to impact District 502 economic recovery and job creation: export assistance, technology commercialization and entrepreneur development assistance and business expansion or retention assistance.
Activities through September 2012 will include business development consulting; expanding partnerships with regional education and finance partners; adding specialty resources such as webinars, workshops and library electronic databases related to increasing export sales; creating a virtual incubator to accelerate technology commercialization; and planning, financial analysis and loan packaging assistance for business expansion or retention for existing high-impact businesses.
Targeted clients include the 12,000-plus manufacturers and wholesale distributors with five to 50 employees that reside within a 25 mile radius of the Illinois Small Business Development Center and College of DuPage.
