Developers of the Water Street District in downtown Naperville have chosen a corporate identity. The hotel planned as the project’s centerpiece will be part of the Hotel Indigo group of boutique inns.
Set to open sometime in 2015, the 160-room Hotel Indigo Naperville on the Riverwalk will be designed in a way that complements its surroundings, reflecting the “culture, character and history” of the site, developer Marquette Companies said in a news release. The Naperville-based company plans to break ground early in 2014 on the 2.4 acre property, which straddles Water Street between Main and Webster streets on the south side of the Riverwalk.
“By design, the brand is refreshingly local, reflecting the culture, people and personality of the community,” said Nick Ryan, Marquette’s managing director and a Naperville resident, in the release. “When you walk into our lobby, you will get the Naperville vibe immediately. We’re proud of that.”
Each hotel in the line features locally sourced food and drinks, art, photography and architecture. Local images are spotlighted in oversized and interpretive photographic murals displayed in shared spaces and guest rooms. The accommodations feature plush bedding, hard-surface floors topped by area rugs and bathrooms with spa-like touches. The developer will tap the Naperville Heritage Society to help bring local history and culture into the hotel through the signature murals and other interior design elements.
“We understand how special and unique Naperville is, and we want to celebrate that,” said Jeff Prosapio, project manager for Marquette, in the release.
Plans for the upscale inn also call for a second-floor lobby centered on a great room with a fireplace, a bistro-style dining area and a wine bar. A health facility will be among the hotel’s amenities, and a pedestrian bridge will lead to the Loggia Building with additional riverfront rooms and suites, in addition to banquet space and meeting rooms that can accommodate from 15 to 60. A rooftop restaurant overlooking the west branch of the DuPage River and downtown Naperville also will be part of the development.
Hotel Indigo, which has a Chicago location on North Dearborn Street and one in Vernon Hills on North Milwaukee Avenue, is one of nearly a dozen brands under the umbrella of the Intercontinental Hotels Group. The decade-old group also includes Crowne Plaza, Candlewood Suites and several current incarnations of the Holiday Inn chain, among others.
