While Jo&Doh Donuts always is on the lookout for the latest trends, their biggest and strangest hit has got to be The Fat Elvis.
“Elvis was known to love banana, peanut butter and bacon,” says Dj Doran, the chef and creative mind at Jo&Doh Donuts, 1292 Rickert Drive, suite 104, just off West Street.
After many creative attempts to make the perfect doughnut sensation, Doran finalized the Fat Elvis.
“We wanted the texture to be just right,” Doran says, but keeping the banana from turning brown was the trick.
“I take the plain Bavarian cream-filled doughnut, spread peanut butter on it, imbed the banana, turn the whole thing upside down and dip it into the chocolate,” Doran explains.
Once the chocolate hardens, he then drapes a slice of bacon over the top, and the Fat Elvis is complete.
Recently opened, this shop brings St. Louis-favorite Melo-Creme doughnuts to Naperville, adding their own creative touch to the base doughnut.
Another popular specialty doughnut has been the Papa Hemmingway. This sweet delight has a keylime filling, frosting and graham-cracker toppings.
“We are always trying to keep everything we are offering full, but now they (customers) have to wait for the Fat Elvis. So they come here at 8 o’clock specifically to still get one,” says Doran of the specialty doughnut only made in limited quantities. “But I guess that’s part of the thrill.”
Jo&Doh Donuts is open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
