If you are one of those people who won’t wear a hearing aid on principle, then the Naperville Hearing Health Center at 363 Raymond Drive might just have the solution for you.
If you’re worried that someone might see a hearing aid, the Lyric product is a “totally invisible” hearing aid for young and old. The Naperville location is one of four locations around Chicago that offers the latest product.
Dr. Ronna Fisher, founder of Hearing Health Center in 1984, became an audiologist after watching her father, suffering from hearing loss at a young age, alienate himself.
“Doctors told him there was nothing they could do,” Fisher says.
Decades later technology has advanced in strides, and awareness has, too.
“There are hearing aids for every lifestyle and every budget. Nobody should ever go with hearing loss,” says Fisher, who also started the Fisher Foundation to help those in need.
“Lyric 2 is invisible. It is inserted straight into the ear,” Fisher says of the device produced by Swiss company Phonak with U.S. headquarters in Warrenville.
The device is changed every few months, and patients are fitted with a new one every time. “You can swim, shower, live your life,” the audiologist adds. Users don’t have to worry about battery changes or cleaning the device.
“Especially baby boomers are benefiting from this invisible device,” she says. “They still consider wearing and needing a hearing aid as a sign of getting old.”
Fisher says she has fitted teenagers for the device, too. And the elderly also benefit.
“Hearing can help with dementia, even prevent it. There is a definitive link,” Fisher she says.
