Bridge Communities will celebrate the culmination of its 25th-anniversary year with a Silver Jubilee event Friday, Oct. 4, at the Esplanade in Downers Grove. The reality is, though, there are never enough resources to help DuPage families experiencing housing issues.
“Last year we received 1,800 calls from people experiencing some sort of housing crisis,” said Amy Van Polen, resource development director of Bridge Communities.
Only 500 of those in need were interviewed, and Bridge Communities selected the maximum 45 families to enter its program for the year.
The organization owns six apartment buildings in Naperville, with more than 30 families living in them. The organization works primarily with faith communities, including many local churches, as mentors.
The event will celebrate Bridge Communities humble beginnings to help one family in 1988 to today when 588 families total have been helped. The night also will look at how it can serve more DuPage families in the coming years.
The event features dinner and live music by Glen Ellyn band Local Favorite. The live auction includes a Chicago sports ticket spectacular, a private chef’s dinner by Chef Kevin of the Wyndham, a two-case wine cellar starter of Californian and French reds, and a luxury Florida vacation package. Attendees also will have the opportunity to win a silver cuff bracelet valued at $500.
Tickets to the Silver Jubilee are $75 each and available at www.bridgecommunities.org.
