City crews were addressing infrastructure malfunctions in different areas of the city Friday morning, and perhaps wondering whether there is truth to the adage that mishaps occur in threes.
A trio of watermain breaks were reported early in the day. Workers were on the scene of one in the 1100 block of George Lane, south of E. Chicago Avenue between Olesen Drive and S. Charles Street, before 8:30 a.m.
Kate Schultz, communications specialist for the city, said all three breaks were minor, and work on the George Lane site was expected to be completed by 9:30 a.m. The next leak, in the 500 block of Du Pahze Street, north of Knoch Knolls Road near 95th Street, was to be next. The third, near River Road in the 1300 block of W. Jefferson Avenue, was to be repaired after that.
“All the work should be complete within a four-hour time frame,” Schultz said shortly after 9 a.m., adding that only one household was affected by each of the breaks. “There’s no impact to traffic from this.”
As for how common it is for three separate watermain breaks to occur in such a short time frame, Schultz said she had no data available from which to comment.
