The 14th annual Keeping Kids Safe program sponsored by the Exchange Club of Naperville, DuPage Child Abuse Prevention Coalition, Prevent Child Abuse Illinois, and the Naperville Police Department will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in the council chambers of the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 Eagle St., Naperville.
This year’s program will focus on Empowering Parents and Caregivers to Keep Children Safe. The speakers will discuss:
How sexual offenders select and manipulate their victims and caregivers
How to recognize in-person and online grooming techniques
Strategies to help keep children safe
Presenters will be Alyssa Williams-Schafer, who is the coordinator for Sex Crimes Services for the Illinois Department of Corrections, and Detective Rich Wistocki of the Naperville Police Department.
Williams-Schafer oversees the Sexually Violent Person’s Evaluation Unit, the Sexually Dangerous Person’s Treatment Program, the Chicago Special Needs Treatment Center, and the East St. Louis Sex Offender Treatment program. Williams-Schafer also coordinates the GPS program, oversees the approval/denial of all sex offender parole placements, serves as licensing administrator for transitional housing in Illinois, conducts training with staff working with sex offenders, works with state and local entities regarding sex offender related legislation.
Detective Wistocki has been with the Naperville Police Department for 23 years. For the last 15 years, he has been assigned to the Internet Crimes Unit, and has forged numerous partnerships with the community and other Law Enforcement agencies. He is one of the founding members of the Illinois Attorney Generals High Tech Crime Bureau, and is a member of United States Secret Service Computer Crimes Task Force. Detective Wistocki’s passion is concentrated in teaching parents how to parent and better protect their children while online. He takes his juvenile investigations experience and applies it to teaching parents how to be better parents.
This free, interactive, hands-on program is for parents only. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops and iPads.
