Extras

Bon Bon

Age: 9 years old

Breed: Italian greyhound mix

Background: Bon Bon has a story to tell. The 30-pounder lived downtown, only to be attacked and bitten in the neck. His family decided they couldn’t afford to take care of his injuries, so they dumped him off at the Chicago Animal Shelter. Dogs like him don’t usually last long there, so HELP rescued him and brought him to a foster family. Since then, his neck wound has healed nicely — it wasn’t as bad as it looked.

Personality: He’s not too fond of big dogs, bad memories from that attack, so he needs a quieter home. He prefers older kids to snuggle with at bedtime. He hates the cold. A fenced yard for him to run would be best.

Adoption fee: $200

Baby

Age: 3-1/2 years old

Breed: Dachshund mix

Background: Baby was surrendered by his owner.

Personality: Baby is a small boy that weighs 17 pounds. Baby had lived in a foster home for awhile and is now back at the shelter. The foster has told us that Baby is a happy, friendly boy; however, he can be a bit timid around new people and needs time to warm up. He has been working on building his confidence, and a few tricks he would love to show you. Baby can be picky about his dog friends and would do best as an only animal in the home. However, Baby loves to be with people and have their attention.

Adoption fee: $250

Where to find this pet: ADOPT Pet Shelter, 420 Industrial Drive, 630-355-2299 or www.adoptpetshelter.org.

Dug

Age: 1 year old

Breed: Beagle/boxer mix

Personality: Cute, fun-loving and loaded with energy, Dug is ready to become your new best friend. He would adore being part of an active family with plenty of dog experience! He’s great with both older kids and adults, although he tries to herd younger children. Dug loves other dogs and really wants another playful canine in the family to show him the ropes. He reacts poorly on a leash, so he needs a house with a fenced yard to romp in with his two and four-footed friends.

Other: Dug already knows the commands for stay, leave it, off, wait, come and more. Dug is neutered, housebroken, crate-trained and current on his vaccinations — microchipping is included with his adoption fee.

Adoption fee: $200

Where to find the pet: RoverRescue.org or call 630-897-7454. Check out his video at http://youtu.be/EEWIwOimpxw.

Charlie

Age: 8 years old

Breed: Domestic medium hair

Background: His owner gave him up.

Personality: Charlie is a quiet “gentle giant.” Because of this he quite frequently gets overlooked.

Adoption fee: $100

Other: All animals at ADOPT are vet checked, spayed or neutered, microchipped and are up to date on age-related vaccines.

Diamond

Age: 8 years old

Breed: Beagle/basset hound mix

Background: She was surrendered to NAHS because her owner became ill and could no longer care for her.

Personality: Diamond is a sweet, gentle dog who really is a “diamond in the rough.” More than anything, she just wants love and affection from a family that appreciates what a wonderful dog she is. Diamond has lived with another dog and a cat before, but she can be afraid of dogs she doesn’t know very well, so another calm, gentle dog would make the best companion for her. She might be OK living with younger children that have been around dogs before and are understanding that she can be nervous at first.

Adoption fee: Because of a program called Lizzy’s Fund, the adoption fee for all senior dogs (older than 7 years) is free.

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Where to find this pet: Naperville Area Humane Society, 1620 W. Diehl Road, Naperville, www.napervilleareahumanesociety.org.

Trudie

Age: 6 years old

Breed: Short-haired calico

Background: Trudie has been in foster care since she was a kitten, along with her three sisters.

Personality: Trudie is a really sweet kitty. She loves to play with her sisters, and is always happy to climb in your lap as soon as you sit down. She also enjoys “helping” her foster mom clean litter boxes.

Adoption fee: $100

Other: Spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines

Where to find this pet: Paws and Purrs Humane Society, 630-897-8738, www.pawsandpurrs.org.

Kayden

Age: 7 years old

Breed: Domestic long hair

Background: He was transferred to NAHS from Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Personality: Kayden is a friendly and outgoing cat that would make a great addition to any family. He loves attention and is never too shy to ask for it. He also has a playful and fun side when the mood strikes him. Because of his easy going personality, Kayden should be fine living with other cats, dogs and children of pretty much any age.

Adoption fee: $25

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Where to find this pet: Naperville Area Humane Society.
