Naperville agencies that focus their efforts on elimination of child abuse and domestic violence have $608,000 more to do their work, after recently receiving portions of the proceeds from the Exchange Club’s massive 2013 Ribfest fundraiser.
The yearly allocations luncheon, held at Meson Sabika, honored recipient organizations that will use the funds for 52 community-based projects.
Among the beneficiaries are:
Families Helping Families, which supports homeless mothers and their children.
The Edward Hospital Foundation and the Care Center of Naperville, which assists children and adults with special needs who have been victims of sexual abuse.
Project Help, which offers volunteer parent mentors for families under stress.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of DuPage County, which trains and supports quality community advocates to represent children in civil court.
The city of Naperville’s Elderly Services Team, which identifies and addresses the needs of local seniors.
DuPage PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), which works to end and prevent homelessness in DuPage County.
Naperville CARES, which helps meet the essential needs of local families in crisis, including the distribution of donated vehicles that help clients find and retain jobs.
The Area Naperville Humane Society, the services of which include a pet therapy program for seniors, a safe pets program for kids and a pet reading program in schools.
360 Youth Services, a support agency for teens and young adults at risk for homelessness.
Our Children’s Homestead, which assures secure homes for abused, neglected and troubled children through treatment, foster care, international adoptions, respite services, after-school programs, domestic violence counseling and other services.
Ribfest, which runs on the power provided by some 4,000 community volunteers, has generated more than $14 million for area nonprofits since its inception in 1987.
This year’s event is set for July 3 to 6 in Knoch Park. Organizers are working to finalize the musical lineup; earlier this month they announced that the July 5 headliner will be Roger Hodgson, cofounder, writer and lead singer of classic rockers Supertramp, and his band.
