When it comes to the school year, it seems everyone wants a say in the calendar, and Naperville School District 203 is in the process of drafting its 2015-16 calendar.
During Monday’s Board of Education meeting, Deputy Superintendent Kaine Osburn and the Calendar Committee said they plan to present a draft calendar at the Jan. 21 School Board meeting.
Any feedback from board members will be taken under advisement so a final proposal can be presented for a vote on Feb. 18.
The Calendar Committee will use the following criteria to create the calendar:
n Balanced semesters
n Finals for high school students before winter break
n A start date as late as possible in August (target date of the third Wednesday)
Superintendent Dan Bridges said the district also must take into account Illinois School Code, other board policies, collective bargaining agreements and DuPage County Regional Office of Education recommendations.
Board member Susan Crotty said she wanted to make sure families get a full two weeks off during Christmas break, and she also preferred the school year not end on a Monday.
Board member Suzyn Price asked the committee to differentiate between teaching days and testing days when they make their presentation.
