A Naperville animal clinic is looking to the skies to help generate energy for the facility.
Naperville’s Planning and Zoning Commission has given a unanimous thumbs up to a proposed wind turbine at Springbrook Animal Care, 2759 Forgue Drive.
The clinic is seeking a conditional use permit for the turbine, which is needed to put such a structure at a site zoned as a community shopping center district.
The owners, SACC Real Estate of Lisle, have already installed numerous skylights and a stormwater detention facility at the site, and want the animal clinic building to be as environmentally-friendly as possible.
The proposed wind turbine would stand 40 feet tall and would meet all code setback and noise level requirements, with the only other variance sought being to forego a required shade tree to make room for the turbine itself.
The cost of the wind turbine will be $20,000, and will provide energy for the 14,000-square-foot building, the owners of the property said.
The proposal will now go to the full City Council for a vote.
