When we think of Asian foods, we usually envision sushi rolls, curries, Tikkas and teriyaki-sauce-marinated vegetables or meats. But East Asian cuisine has something to offer for even the pickiest sweet tooth out there.
This authentic Korean morning bread is similar to a yeast-based sweet bread; the extra touch lies in the various fillings.
“The buttercream-filled Morning Bread is our biggest seller,” explains Karen Gomez, store manager at Bini’s Bakery. It opened four years ago, housed within the H-Mart appendix at 1295 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville.
Other fillings include the popular red-bean paste, white-bean paste and green-bean paste spread thickly within the sweet bread. Mocha and white cream fillings are especially popular among the ladies with their afternoon coffee, says Ellen Lee, regular customer and Naperville resident of Korean decent.
“It’s not as sweet as other desserts or cakes,” Gomez explains of the simple flour-, egg-, milk-, salt-, butter-, sugar- and yeast-based morning breads.
“It’s called a morning bread but can be eaten any time of the day,” Lee says. “It’s a treat, and not for every day,” she adds as she picks out one of each individual-sized breads to take home to her family, celebrating back to school.
The bread is sold in two round sizes: a 2-pound family size for $4.99, and a 4- to 5-inch individual-serving size for $1.39 and more. Call 630-357-1010.
