On October 25, Benet Academy was featured on the Friday Flyover segment of ABC7 News This Morning, the local early morning news show. Students, faculty and staff arrived between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. The cold temperatures and early morning hour did not deter many - 1,209 students attended (89 percent of the student body) along with a majority of the faculty and staff.
Welcomed with hot chocolate, pancakes and donuts, students took their places. The morning started with a short pep rally celebrating our Fall Sports Teams and revving up the audience in preparation for three "flyovers" by the ABC chopper. By 6:10 a.m. the band and varsity athletes formed a big letter "B" for Benet in the middle of the field at Baumgartner-Gilbert Stadium. he students in the stands cheered as the helicopter shot video of the field.
For the second shot from the chopper, the band formed "Benet" on the field. Then all students were invited on the field to fill in the letters. In a matter of minutes and with the expert leadership of our music directors, Brian Wand and Rich Alfantis, “BENET” took shape on the field – an impressive display of school spirit.
For the third flyover, the Benet Marching Band marched around the letters “BENET” on the field while students on the field waved their phones (as flashlights) pointed to the sky. During the flyover, Mr. Marty Gaughan, Director of Social Media and Recruitment Associate, was interviewed by ABC news anchors Judy Hsu and Ravi Baichwal.
