Literacy DuPage, a non-profit organization that provides one-on-one English Literacy tutoring to adult learners, has announced the selection, effective August 5, of Bernie Steiger as its new Executive Director. Steiger has succeeded Tana Tatnall, who retired after nearly seven years with the organization.
A former Literacy DuPage tutor and staff member, Steiger will guide the organization, recognized in 2012 as the second largest volunteer tutor literacy organization in the United States. Currently, Literacy DuPage serves more than 460 adult learners in DuPage County utilizing more than 350 trained volunteer tutors.
“We are thrilled to have Bernie as our new Executive Director and to have her represent Literacy DuPage out in the community,” said Rick Lochner, the Literacy DuPage Board President. “Her passion for our mission, strong leadership and broad business experience will be a great asset as we move forward.”
Steiger, a Glen Ellyn resident, brings more than 25 years of management, development and marketing experience to Literacy DuPage and is also an adjunct faculty member at Elmhurst College. She holds a bachelor's degree in Finance and Economics from Lake Superior State University and an MBA from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Portugal.
