Each week, we get to know a different student from an area high school. This week we talk with violinist Michelle Chin from Naperville North High School, who plays with the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and Vivaldi Strings.

1. What are your post high school plans?

I plan to attend college studying bioengineering and then attend law school. I also plan on continuing my violin studies in college and in the future.

2. What do you like to do on the weekends?

On the weekends I like to play my violin. I am in the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and we rehearse on Sunday evenings. I am also in a stringed performing tour group called Vivaldi Strings, and we rehearse on Saturday mornings. Most of my weekend is dedicated to my violin. Additionally, I enjoy watching movies and reading.

3. What is your favorite subject? Favorite teacher?

My favorite subject is science. I am very interested in all kinds of science, and really enjoy the classes that I have taken so far.

4. What is your favorite social media?

Facebook is probably my favorite social media because it is the easiest way to connect with most of my friends. I also enjoy spending time on Youtube.

5. What is one thing someone wouldn’t expect to know about you?

I absolutely love action movies. It is kind of counterintuitive, but there is something about things blowing up that actually relaxes me. It’s probably the fact that action movies give my brain a break from thinking about anything.

6. What is your favorite sports team?

I don’t really have a favorite sports team, but I love watching the Olympics. I especially like watching artistic sports like figure skating or gymnastics.

7. What is the one website that you have to visit every day?

I love the website Reddit. I love to find comic relief on the internet, and that site is always a good place to find some.

8. What is your favorite TV show?

There are a bunch of TV shows that I enjoy but "Friends" was probably my favorite TV show. Today, I enjoy watching "Modern Family" and "How I Met Your Mother."
