A woman hit by an SUV after getting her child into a car seat in the South Chicago neighborhood remained in critical condition Friday.
The 29-year-old woman was struck by the white vehicle about 6:30 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Burley Avenue, police said.
The driver, who was traveling east bound on 87th Street, did not stop after hitting her and the driver’s side of her Chevy Impala, and remains at-large early Friday, Police Officer Robert Perez said.
The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she remained in critical condition as of noon Friday, police said.
The child was not hurt. Its mother either was putting it into the car, or had just finished and was making her way to the driver’s seat when she was struck, Perez said.
Chicago Police Major Accidents was investigating.
Neighbors said the mother did not live on the block but was visiting a resident.
