GIRLS BASKETBALL

Neuqua Valley 47, Bartlett 32 — The Wildcats remained unbeaten at 10-0 and improved their Upstate Eight Valley record to 3-0. Neuqua Valley had balance among its scoring leaders — Allison Hedrick and Najee Smith each had 11 points, while Lauren Deveikis had 10.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Vickers signs with Purdue North Central — Former Waubonsie Valley standout Harry Vickers has commited to play baseball at Purdue North Central. Vickers has been a utility player for Waubonsee Community College. While managing five different positions, Vickers hit .308 with three home runs and 26 RBI. He also had 18 stolen bases in 24 attempts while leading the team with 39 runs. Vickers plans to major in business. He is the son of Harry and Kristine Vickers and is a native of Aurora.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Cardinals selected to All-Region team — Eight members of the North Central College football team have been named to the 2012 All-North Region Teams, as selected by D3football.com.

The Cardinals had four players selected to the All-Region second team in offensive tackle Jace Werkheiser, junior from Freeport; cornerback Josh Mitchell, senior from Bloomington; safety Shane Dierking, junior from Wheaton Warrenville South; and punter Tyler Rasche, senior from Moline. Selected to the third team were running back Nick Kukuc, senior from Naperville Central; defensive end Alex Tripp, junior from Belvidere North; defensive tackle Josh Fick, junior from Crystal Lake Central; and linebacker Joey Michals, senior from Providence Catholic.

All eight of North Central’s All-Region honorees were recipients of First Team All-CCIW accolades in November.

The Cardinals finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 9-3, earning a share of their seventh straight CCIW Championship and qualifying for the Division III Football Championship for the seventh time in the past eight years.
