Senior Kaitlyn Daly already knew what it felt like to win the vault title at the Naperville North Invitational.
Daly won the event last January with a 9.275, but one-upped herself during Saturday’s invite, registering a career-best 9.6 to defend her title.
Her effort helped the host Huskies secure sixth place with 134.225 points. Naperville Central placed eighth with a total of 130.750.
Glenbard West won the 12-team invite with 141.7 points.
“Vault is one of the events I get most excited about so it definitely felt good,” Daly said. “It was really neat to do it on the home turf, so to speak.”
Daly and sophomore teammate Michaela Robert tied for seventh place in the all-around with a 35.875 each.
“I think that especially this year our friendship and relationship has gotten a lot stronger with her now doing four events with me,” Robert said. “I wouldn’t call it a competition. It’s more like a motivational thing. We both push each other to do better and push ourselves.”
Carleigh Turner added an 8.35 on vault and 8.275 on bars for the Huskies while Grace Carlson had a 7.6 on beam and Shelby Porter posted an 8.3 on floor. It all helped the Huskies improve upon the 133 they scored on Thursday at Glenbard North.
Naperville Central fought through the rust on Saturday. As per usual their top all-arounders were in a bunch, with Brittany Mitchell leading the way with a 33.1. Claire Savard contributed a 32.3 and Vanessa Henry had a 32.25.
“Yesterday they did their full routines and I knew they were going to be a little stiff and slow on things,” Redhawks coach Glen Reimers said. “It wasn’t our greatest meet but I was happy they were able to perform how they did.”
Claire Savard had an 8.725 on vault and an 8.6 on beam, Leah Savard earned an 8.675 on vault, Mitchell had an 8.3 on floor and 8.6 on vault, and Henry scored an 8.225 on floor and an 8.6 on vault to pace Naperville Central.
