Roundup: North Central men’s hoops ranked No. 7

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cardinals No. 7 in D-III poll — North Central is ranked No. 7 among NCAA Division III programs in this week’s Top 25 Poll released by D3hoops.com.
The Cardinals were ranked fifth in last week’s poll before a pair of losses on the road in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play. North Central dropped a 69-61 decision at then-No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday before a 71-69 overtime loss at then-No. 25 Wheaton College on Saturday.
The Cardinals (16-3, 5-3 CCIW) received 439 points in this week’s voting. Rochester (N.Y.) received 623 points and 23 first-place votes to take over the No. 1 spot for the first time this season, while St. Thomas (Minn.) dropped one spot to No. 2 with 566 points and two first-place votes. Whitworth (Wash.) is third this week, followed by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass.) and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
North Central is one of three CCIW teams to be ranked in the top 25, joining Illinois Wesleyan (No. 12) and Wheaton (No. 20).
The Cardinals host Carthage (10-9, 5-3 CCIW) on Wednesday. Tipoff at Gregory Arena is 7:30 p.m.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Limanowski to play for Purdue North Central — Kyle Limanowski, a right-handed pitcher from Waubonsee Community College, has committed to play for Purdue North Central. Limanowski, a graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School, had a strong freshman season for WCC as a front-of-the-rotation pitcher. He finished third on the team in innings pitched with 47.2 while going 3-5. He averaged more than one strikeout per innings with 52 against just 22 walks.
He also led Waubonsee with a .333 batting average (48 for 144). He added 9 doubles, 1 triple and 23 RBI for the Chiefs.
Limanowski is the second player from Waubonsee to commit to the Panthers as he joins Harry Vickers, also a Waubonsie Valley grad, who signed in November.
Limanowski plans to major in nursing. He is the son of John and Susan Limanowski of Naperville.
