Naperville North dominated the Naperville Twilight Invitational on Wednesday at Neuqua Valley, as both the boys and girls Huskies teams took home first-place plaques.
Naperville Central’s Amanda Fox won the girls race in 17:13.0 and Metea Valley’s Joe Stewart won the boys race with a time of 15:20.5. Both are seniors.
Fox and Stewart enjoyed taking in the atmosphere in the event that was done in conjunction with Nike. Both varsity races took place under a lighted course.
“Just all the people cheering for you, it motivates you and gets the adrenaline going,” Fox said. “Our team was really pumped for this race and we just wanted to give it our all before (the DuPage Valley Conference meet) and have good performances.”
Stewart’s twin brother, Matt, finished second in the boys competition with a 15:34.1 race.
“It’s pretty cool,” Joe Stewart said of the occurrence. “We tried to stick together the first mile, mile-and-a-half and then it kind of separates. But it’s just good to have him there for support all the time.”
The Naperville North girls won with 33 points, far ahead of second-place Naperville Central (55). Metea Valley was third with 82 points, followed by Neuqua Valley (90) and Waubonsie Valley’s 113.
On the boys side, the Huskies captured the title with 39 points, followed by Neuqua Valley (46), Metea Valley (55), Naperville Central (81) and Waubonsie Valley at 155.
Individually, in girls action, Waubonsie Valley’s Ashley Bruner was second (18:06.0), followed by Naperville North teammates Kimber Meyer (18:11.6) and Alex Moxon (18:16.4) and Metea Valley’s Lauren Lindholm (18:18.2).
Five Huskies placed in the top 10.
In the boys competition, Naperville North’s duo of Nick Drendel (16:02.4) and Tyler Woodward (16:07.6) went third and fourth, and Neuqua Valley’s Robbie Hohlman (16:08.0) was fifth.
Three Huskies made the top 10.
The winning teams received plaques and the top 25 individuals for each gender earned medals.
