Boys Volleyball: Balanced Metea downs Hinsdale Central
Nick Wieland had seven kills and Shiv Desai added six as Metea Valley defeated Hinsdale Central 25-13, 25-17 at the Hinsdale Central Regional.
Roundup: North, Central volleyball teams win in regional
Naperville North defeated Proviso West at the Glenbard West Regional and Naperville Central beat Nazareth Academy at the Wheaton St. Francis Regional. Both advanced to Tuesday semifinal games in regional volleyball action.
Softball: Central wants to erase sting of late-season losses
With a stinging doubleheader loss that cost them the DVC title behind them, No. 2 Naperville Central enter postseason play as the No. 2 seed in the East Aurora Sectional. On Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., they’ll face the winner of Monday’s regional quarterfinal play-in game between East Aurora and Romeoville. In the Plainfield South Regional semifinal, top seed Benet will play either No. 16 Oswego East or 17th-seeded West Aurora at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Girls Water Polo: Central seniors complete 127-13 run
School record setter Abbey Kerth is one of seven seniors Naperville Central coach Jeff Plackett has to bid farewell. Standout goalie Julia Campbell and two-way star Emily Sejna are in that group of graduates, as well as Lauren Gunn, Gracie May, Jamie Schweikart and Allison Susin. In the four years those seven seniors were in the girls water polo program, the Redhawks have put together an incredible 127-13 varsity record that includes two second-place trophies and a third-place trophy.
Girls Water Polo: Central can’t unseat Fenwick as state champs
Fenwick won its second consecutive state championship, finding a way to take out a tough Naperville Central squad, 10-7, in Saturday’s state championship game at Stevenson. It is the seventh state championship for the program in the 11 years the IHSA state series has existed for girls water polo.
Girls Track: Waubonsie’s Akinosun, Neuqua’s Carson win titles at state meet
Waubonsie Valley’s Morolake Akinosun cast away her state meet demons and Savannah Carson of Neuqua Valley continued her school’s strong jumping tradition, and both came up champions Saturday at the 40th Annual Girls State Meet at Eastern Illinois University.
Boys Tennis: Central, Waubonsie finish behind Marmion in sectional
Undefeated Marmion topped all teams with 25 points, while Naperville Central and Waubonsie Valley tied for second with 18 at Saturday’s West Aurora Sectional. Waubonsie Valley’s senior duo of Deep Chatterjee and Abhi Singh defeated the Naperville Central team of junior Danny Albert and sophomore Wesley Lo 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the doubles championship.

On Saturday, senior Gordon Zhang won the Naperville North Sectional singles championship and qualified for the state tournament for the fourth time as he led the Huskies to the sectional team championship.
Boys Volleyball: No. 4 Waubonsie faces tough field at WW South
With regionals opening this week, Waubonsie Valley(25-8) is the highest-seeded Naperville-area team at No. 4, and the three teams ahead of the Warriors in the sectional — Wheaton Warrenville South, which is undefeated, Glenbard East and Glenbard West — are generally considered among the state’s elite. Joining Waubonsie at the Hinsdale Central Regional is Metea Valley. Benet and Naperville North are at the Glenbard West Regional, while Neuqua Valley and Naperville Central are at St. Francis.
Baseball: Eight-run inning dooms Naperville Central
Buoyed by an eight-run fourth, York broke open a 1-1 game in cruising to a 9-3 victory over Naperville Central in Naperville. Junior left-hander Adam Gomez was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught in going the distance for York (22-12), scattering nine hits and striking out three while walking just one.
Roundup: Benet breezes to 2A regional soccer title
Benet had no trouble in a shortened regional final, routing Evergreen Park 15-0 Saturday to move on to a Tuesday game against Glenbard South in the Class 2A Nazareth Sectional.
