There really was no debate. While there were several memorable individual efforts, no one guided a team from beginning to end this fall like Naperville Central quarterback Jake Kolbe.
Saturdays got a whole lot better for Jake Kolbe in 2013.
It started with a 47-18 win over Neuqua Valley on Nov. 16 in the Class 8A quarterfinals, followed on Nov. 23 with a come-from-behind 27-21 victory over Marist in the semifinals. And it culminated on Nov. 30 with a 13-10 state championship victory over Loyola.
Oh, and on Saturday, the Naperville Central quarterback celebrated his 18th birthday.
Now, it’s mid-December and despite the season being over, the Naperville area still is buzzing about the Redhawks and partying like it’s 1999, which was the last time the team had this much Saturday Night Fever.
Meanwhile, Kolbe is being recognized as the Naperville Sun’s Football Player of the Year.
