Waubonsie Valley High School product Paige Collins is taking the lead Sunday when she will star as Rose in “Rose and the Rime” at the Chopin Theatre in Chicago.
The music and dance production is about a girl who hopes to save her town from perpetual winter and its own greed.
“I’m looking forward to playing ‘Rose’ and think this will be super fun,” Collins said.
A 2005 graduate, Collins, 26, who has since moved to Chicago from Naperville, said she went on to get a bachelor’s degree in theater at the University of Illinois, Champaign, and has been involved in theater productions ever since.
“I’ve been in over a dozen professional productions and have played the lead before,” Collins said. “I’m a member of the company here at the Chopin Theatre, and it’s a lot less pressure being a company member than the lead in a play.”
But she’s more than happy to take on the starring role.
Spoiler alert: Collins said the play doesn’t end on a downer and that Rose does, in fact, save the town. How does she do it?
“Rose finds out in the end who she is and gets more than she bargained for,” Collins said.
The show will continue through March 9.
