Benton Harbor has become a haven in the Midwest for the arts, showcasing the limitless creativity of musicians and artists within the community. In the fall, the New Territory Arts Association (NTAA) holds their flagship event, Artoberfest, which welcomes members of the Benton Harbor community and visitors from throughout the region to enjoy music, art showcases, and food provided by local restaurants. This year's Artoberfest will beSept. 21, 2013 from Noon-9 p.m.
The NTAA has been highly influential in shaping the Benton Harbor arts culture. Their members work hard throughout the year to give schools access to arts funding, programs for young artists, and more opportunities to showcase artwork within the community. Artoberfest is integral to these efforts, as the funds raised by this single event can sustain the efforts of the NTAA for the following year. In addition to encouraging people of all ages to attend Artoberfest, the NTAA is welcoming new members with low annual membership costs and $5 off at the door for Artoberfest.
There is no single word to describe Artoberfest, because it offers entertainment for everyone with performances by local musicians—including some first-time performers as well as regionally famous singer/songwriters. Art displays are put up throughout the festival as well, providing visual aesthetics to accompany great music. To satisfy even more of your senses, local restaurants are offering some of their best dishes accompanied by the region's most notable craft beers and wines.
